Why hasn't the building burned down yet? I don't know.

Introductions

Posted by ocrickard

My name is Oliver Rickard, and I'm an undergrad in the Civil Engineering program at UC Berkeley.  I took up blacksmithing as a hobby a little over a year ago, and have been hooked ever since.  My goal with this blog is to present my projects to whomever wants to read about them.  I will try to post pictures of every step of the process and provide as much explanation as I can.

The "Basement Blacksmith" comes from the fact that my forge and smithy area are in the "dungeon" of my house here in Berkeley.  I live in an enormous cooperative house called Cloyne Court with 150 residents.  We take up half a city block and have a long history of being one of the most creative and crazy places in the Berkeley area.  The house opened as a hotel for visiting professors in 1904, and was converted into a Co-op in 1946, which it has remained ever since.

Well, it's back to the forge with me.  I hope to post my first actual blog entry sometime soon.
